This weekend I received the best gift of all during my time as a Haligonian – a renewed boost of pride for my city, and confirmation that what I, and my fellow entrepreneurs contribute to Halifax is worth the effort.
Over the years, I’ve seen some great times and some not so great times for retail in Halifax. It’s a challenging sector, but one that helps shape this city’s personality. Halifax’s many independent, locally owned and operated offerings contribute to our uniqueness…our ‘we aren’t like everyone-else-ness’.
This weekend, Wildflower Clothing celebrated its 12th year in business. This year, the occasion happened to fall on the same weekend that ILoveLocalHFX organized the first ‘Open City’ event – a city-wide, weekend-long showcase of over 75 indie businesses and a celebration of our city’s potential.
The turnout and vibe were nothing short of amazing! Below are just a couple of pics from the store including one of our fantastic musical guests StoneHowse (Roger Howse and Brenda Stone):
But don’t just take it from me…Please check out a couple of great write ups:
Also, the event made the front page of the Chronicle Herald. You can read the article here (along with many of the thousands of Tweets re: Open City)
A huge thank you to a wonderful clientele who has supported Wildflower for over a decade. It is a pleasure to serve you…in downtown Halifax!
